About DDO

What is ddo?
This magazine is simply a medium to begin sorting out our personal experiences with friends, family, and the church and dealing with some of life's dirty issues and places where being a follower of Christ and a member of this world seem to collide. We encourage you to respond to the articles by contacting the author or contributing your own piece of work.

Mission Statement
To cultivate a community of women who through discussions, humor, stories, poetry, music and art can fearlessly explore God together by opening up their hearts and minds to each other. As either a reader or contributor to this online magazine, it is important to remember that in no way do we claim to have life figured out and have answers to all the difficult questions.

History
The dirtydish online was started in 2005 by a group of women who attended church together. The church was new and the women were struggling to connect with each other on a deeper level. The ddo initially served to help bring together the community of women within their church but soon expanded to include friends from around the US and several locations around the world.

Among the highlights of the publication have been summer photography and poetry contests and a regular column titled "Sex Anonymous". This column posted by anonymous authors has enabled the community to explore a gamut of issues surrounding sex included sexual abuse, regrets, hopes, struggles, and they way God intended sex for our lives.

In the fall of 2007, an editor and creator off ddo, Paige Puckett, began to prepare for the arrival of her first baby, and co-editor, Beth Parent, took on new responsibilities at work. Thus, the ddo was put on the back-burner. At the encouragement of Amy Gusefski, another editor of ddo, the three women began discussing reviving ddo. They are still discussing. In the fall of 2008, the publication was moved to a blog format in efforts to facilitate discussion based content and allow for a rolling rather than quarterly publication.
